"The Reminder is a modestly scaled but quietly profound pop gem; sometimes intimate, sometimes exuberant, filled with love songs and hints of mystery."—New York Times
Indie-Pop Rock rising star Feist performs at the Academy of Music on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 8pm. The Canadian singer-songwriter experienced a swift meteoric rise in 2007 with the release of her third album, The Reminder, which catapulted her from the indie hipster scene to full-fledged star status. The latest album, a soft poetic rhapsody tinged with bossa nova, folk rock, torch and electronica melodies, includes the smash hit “1234” featured on Apple iPod commercials nationally. The Canadian Juno award winner is also a current contender for four 2008 Grammy® awards. Feist, the surname of lead singer Leslie Feist, was previously singer of Toronto-based Broken Social Scene. The performance will include a range of hits from recent albums including the crowd-pleaser "My Moon My Man" to haunting ballads like "I’m Sorry" and "Intuition" from the 2007 album.
"[Feist] is a restless polymath with a catalog of great songs and a voice like carved steam…Her voice is self-possessed yet unguarded, and it hovers in arrangements that are often modest…but can also proffer gleaming instrumental hooks and nonsense syllables that invite sing-alongs. The songs find equipoise within heartache."—New York Times

Nova Scotia native Leslie Feist first emerged as a distinctive voice in the music world in 1991 as the founder and frontwoman of Canadian punk band Placebo. In succeeding years, Feist collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including fellow Canadian Noah Mintz, and rock band By Divine Right with whom she toured throughout 1998, 1999, and 2000. In 2001, Feist joined the indie rock band Broken Social Scene, releasing the Juno Award-winning album You Forgot It in People in 2003. Other collaborations include a stint with the Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience as co-writer and guest vocalist on their album Riot on an Empty Street, as well as co-writing and singing as a duet "The Simple Story" with Jane Birkin on her album Rendezvous.
As a solo artist, Feist released her debut album, Monarch (Lay Your Jeweled Head Down), in 1999. Her follow up and major label debut album Let It Die, was released in 2004 and featured both original compositions and covers. Feist toured from 2004 to 2006 throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia supporting Let It Die, and won two Canadian Juno Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Rock Album in 2004. Feist's third solo album, The Reminder (2007) was a surprise smash hit, landing her on the cover of The New York Times arts section in June 2007. Her single "1234" was ranked number two of The 10 Best Songs of 2007 by Time magazine.
