Peter, Paul & Mary Change Scheduled Performance Date at the Kimmel Center to June 14, 2009
October 29, 2008
Kimmel Center Presents 2008-09 Season Sponsored by Citi
Folk legends Peter, Paul & Mary, originally scheduled to perform at the Kimmel Center on Sunday, November 23, 2008, have postponed their performance until Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 7:30pm. Current ticket holders may use their original tickets for admittance on the new date. Mary Travers is unable to perform on the originally scheduled date, due to a lung infection from which she is expected to recover fully. Quintessential to the Greenwich Village folk revival of the 1960s, Peter, Paul & Mary became a "folk-pop supergroup" with folk classics such as "Puff (The Magic Dragon)" and Pete Seeger’s classic "If I Had a Hammer."
Proponents of a new wave of folk poets, the trio introduced the work of Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, John Denver, Phil Ochs and Tom Paxton to a wider audience, popularizing works such as Dylan’s "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and "Blowin' in the Wind," and Denver’s "Leaving On A Jet Plane," among others.
"Peter, Paul & Mary are not only three of the greatest folk artists ever, but also three of the performing arts’ most outstanding champions of social justice and peace…Their compassion and commitment remain as strong as their extraordinary artistry."—Coretta Scott King, late author, activist and wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tickets for Peter, Paul & Mary are $38, $52, $66 and $75 and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at www.kimmelcenter.org, or at the Kimmel Center box office open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings. (Additional fees may apply.) For group sales call 215-790-5883.
A limited number of $10 tickets are available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. Tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning 2.5 hours prior to evening curtain time and 11:30am for matinees. Limit one ticket per person.
