PHILADANCO

"Philadanco's dancers are a miracle of skill and energy. They work in a range of idioms most companies don't even try to possess." —Dance Magazine

"The company style...is visceral...fierce and sensuous by turns...elegant and ingratiating."
—New York Magazine

"Exuberant" —The New York Times

"Philadanco, was especially fine-technically powerful and musically spot-on. It was a 100 percent performance from a company that makes them look routine." —The Philadelphia Inquirer

Philadanco has grown, since 1970, from a community arts organization based in West Philadelphia to a dance company celebrated throughout the world. Joan Myers Brown and her 17 dancers are famed for innovative choreography, blending African American-based dance with ballet, jazz, and modern. Philadanco's repertoire includes works by Talley Beatty, Ronald K. Brown, Donald Byrd, George Faison, and Gene Hill Sagan. The company premieres new productions and performs nationally and internationally, about 40 weeks each year.
