Part Time Security Officer

Department:    Security
Reports to:       Security Supervisor
Status:   Non-exempt


This position is under the direct supervision of the Security Supervisor for assigned shift of the Security Department and is responsible for the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, staff, patrons and all visitors within the venues managed by Kimmel Center, Inc.

Essential Functions:

  • Enforce Kimmel Center access control / badge procedures
  • Develop and distribute employee identification badges
  • Monitor entrances and protect property from theft, sabotage, fire and accidents
  • Detain any visitors suspected to be involved in illegal activity while on Kimmel Center property and inform proper authorities
  • Receive deliveries and ensure distribution to the appropriate personnel
  • Provide any needed assistance to patrons, employees and visitors with the department's capabilities
  • Serve as training officer to new security staff if necessary; may perform duties of a Security Supervisor during required coverage as assigned
  • Proactively patrol the property as instructed
  • Provide a highly visible security presence to help deter criminal activity and act promptly to address unacceptable behavior
  • Seek opportunities to interact with patrons and clients, and be friendly, helpful and attentive to enhance their experience
  • While on patrol, be alert and identify potential safety hazards, mitigate hazards, and make appropriate notification of conditions of concern
  • Respond to, investigate, and write reports on all incidents and accidents including medical emergencies, fires, alarms, bomb threats, etc. in accordance with the departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular attendance in the event of inclement weather, public transportation restrictions/closures and/or any other emergency, even in the event of the closure of Kimmel Center administrative offices
  • Assists with Worker’s Compensation reporting process and first aid in the case of an injury sustained by a Kimmel Center, Inc. employee
  • Availability for evening, night and weekend shifts with occasional day shifts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED, or at least 10 years of verifiable employment history
  • Prior Security/Law Enforcement experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Successful completion of Security Department Training Program
  • Negative result on pre-employment background and drug screenings
  • Good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment and enforcement procedures
  • Ability to make independent and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedure
  • Ability to handle typical and emergency and crisis situations efficiently and effectively at all Kimmel Center, Inc. sites
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English for the purpose of public interaction and report writing
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to provide quality customer service

  • Friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to stand, walk, run up to 8 hours
  • Ability to lift and push up to 30lb
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard
  • Availability to work up to 25 hours per week
  • Availability to work an inconsistent weekly schedule
  • Availability for evening, night and weekend shifts with occasional day shifts

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed inside and outside the property with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations. Shift work required
  • Part-time security officers may be scheduled to be “on call”
