TONY AWARD® WINNER ALAN CUMMING PERFORMS CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED CABARET SHOW ALAN CUMMING SINGS SAPPY SONGS AT VERIZON HALL, FEBRUARY 19, 2017

An Emotional Firestorm.” – The New York Times

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, December 22, 2016) –– Four-time Emmy® nominee and Tony® Award-winning actor and activist Alan Cumming brings his critically-acclaimed cabaret show, Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs, to the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. The show is Cumming’s most personal and intimate show to date, having already wowed audiences with his singular covers of popular songs and revealing stories shared throughout the performance. Appearing with Cumming are Music Director Lance Horne and cellist Eleanor Norton.

“Alan Cumming has been an icon in the performing arts world for decades and this incredibly popular show demonstrates just how versatile a performer he is,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We love presenting the opportunity for audiences to experience their favorite artists in an intimate performance style and we cannot wait to see what Alan has in store for his fans in Philadelphia.”

Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs originated when Cumming was asked to develop a new concert for a two-week run at New York’s legendary Café Carlyle. Following a tour through the United States, Canada, and Australia, he returned to New York City in February 2016 to perform sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall, shortly after releasing a live album by the same name. The New York Times called the show an “emotional firestorm” filled with songs by diverse artists including Billy Joel, Stephen Sondheim, Rufus Wainwright, and Miley Cyrus.

Alan Cumming is best known for standout roles in television (The Good Wife, The L Word), film (Eyes Wide Shut, Titus), theater (Hamlet, Cabaret, Macbeth), writing (The New York Times best-selling Not My Father's Son: A Memoir), and stand-up comedy.

Other upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Campus include Martha Graham Cracker: Lashed But Not Leashed (March 16–18, 2017, SEI Innovation Studio), Cabaret (April 4- April 9, 2017, Academy of Music), Carol Burnett: An Evening of Laughter and Reflection Where The Audience Asks The Questions (April 11, 2017, Academy of Music), Broadway Up Close with Alice Ripley, hosted by Seth Rudetsky (May 6, 2017, Perelman Theater), and Broadway Up Close with Chita Rivera, hosted by Seth Rudetsky (June 3, 2017, Merriam Theater).
