MULTI-GRAMMY-NOMINATED BRAZILIAN VOCALIST

BEBEL GILBERTO TO PERFORM SONGS FROM HER

LATEST ALBUM, TUDO, AT THE PERELMAN THEATER
FEBRUARY 14, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, January 12, 2016) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts presents multi-Grammy-nominated Brazilian vocalist Bebel Gilberto to the Perelman Theater for a one-night-only engagement on Sunday, February 14 at 8:00 p.m. This performance is part of Gilberto’s nine-city North American tour in support of her latest album release Tudo, her first studio recording in five years. Tudo, meaning “everything” in Portuguese, flawlessly showcases Bebel’s ethereal vocals and dreamy-song writing in each of the album’s 12 tracks.

“Bebel Gilberto’s talent is a rarity and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Kimmel Center stage,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Her uniquely wistful lyrics and bossa nova sound combine to create an unforgettable soundtrack for this Valentine’s Day performance.”

The intimate set-up, which will feature Gilberto joined by her longtime guitarist and musical director Masa Shimizu, will highlight classic hits, reinterpretations of some of her favorite songs, and cuts from her latest album. Gilberto, who has earned multiple Grammy nominations over the course of her career, has captivated fans and earned media acclaim worldwide with her trademark electronic bossa nova.

Patrons can also further their Valentine’s Day experience with a special package for two from Garces Events and the Kimmel Center. The $190 package includes two discounted Plaza-level seats to this performance, plus a flight of sparkling wine, oysters, and petits fours to be enjoyed at Bar Volvér in the Kimmel Center. Tickets for this package can be purchased at www.kimmelculturalcampus.org and reservations must be made by January 30.

About Bebel Gilberto

Bebel Gilberto was born in New York to Brazilian music icons João Gilberto and Miúcha. Her musical education was her childhood in Brazil. She was surrounded by extended family including her uncle Chico Buarque and family friends like Milton Nacimento, Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso, and João Donato; she made her first recording at age 7. Several years after moving to New York City in 1991, her present day sound of electronic meets Brazilian began to crystallize. She established a weekly gig at The Greatest Bar on Earth, on top of the Worldtrade Center in the early 1990’s that drew a fervent international crowd.

Gilberto released her latest album Tudo on Sony Masterworks in August 2014; her first studio recording in five years. Her life-long eclectic musical tastes are made palpable when listening to Tudo. In addition to living and breathing all types of Brazilian musical styles as a child, she was exposed to the greats, from Debussy to Prince; Michel Legrand to Billie Holliday; Bjork to Gershwin.  Also evident onTudo some tracks for than others, is her love for North American soul; she discovered Donna Summer, Earth Wind and Fire, and Michael Jackson on the dance floor as a budding teenager.  Bebel splits her time between Rio de Janeiro and New York City; she’s exquisitely synthesized musical influences from both cities in every track. Tudo is sung in Portuguese, English—sometimes in the same song—and a touch of French.
