LEGENDARY AWARD-WINNING ACTRESS AND COMEDIAN CAROL BURNETT

“AN EVENING OF LAUGHTER AND REFLECTION WHERE THE AUDIENCE ASKS THE QUESTIONS”

ACADEMY OF MUSIC, APRIL 11, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, February 22, 2017) –– Beloved comedian and actress Carol Burnett spends An Evening of Laughter and Reflection Where the Audience Asks the Questions at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ Academy of Music on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.  Throughout the performance, Burnett will take questions from the audience and show video clips from her show – a format that harkens back to the legendary openings of The Carol Burnett Show where her studio audience had an unfiltered opportunity to engage Carol with questions and receive spontaneous answers. “I love the spontaneity of these evenings,” Burnett has said. “I never know what anyone is going to ask, or say, or do, so it keeps me on my toes.”

“Carol Burnett is, truly a one-of-a-kind performer, showcasing her talents across so many mediums,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “As evident from her long-standing television show, Burnett connects with her audiences on an intimate, spontaneous, and hilarious level. We cannot wait to hear what Philadelphia audiences have in store for her!”

Carol Burnett, award-winning actress and best-selling author, is widely recognized by the public and her peers for her work on stage and screen, most notably The Carol Burnett Show. Named in 2007 by TIME magazine as one of “100 Best Television Shows of All Time,” The Carol Burnett Show ran for 11 years, averaged 30 million viewers per week, and received 25 Emmy Awards, making it one of the most honored shows in television history. Ms. Burnett’s artistic brilliance, her respect and appreciation of her fans, and her graciousness, integrity, warmth, and humor on and off screen have made her one of the most beloved performers in entertainment and one of the most admired women in America.

Other upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Campus include Spend the Night with Billy Crystal (March 20-21, 2017, Academy of Music), Brit Floyd (April 15, 2017, Academy of Music), Broadway Up Close with Alice Ripley (May 6, 2017, Perelman Theater), and Broadway Up Close with Chita Rivera (June 3, 2017, Merriam Theater).
