BELOVED CHILDREN’S BOOK SERIES ELEPHANT & PIGGIE COMES TO LIFE ON STAGE IN NEW PRODUCTION AT THE MERRIAM THEATER, JANUARY 21, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, November 18, 2016) — Elephant & Piggie, stars of the beloved children’s book series of the same name, jump from page to stage in their new interactive production, We Are in a Play! The show is based on the award-winning and best-selling Elephant & Piggie book series by Mo Willems. Elephant & Piggie: We are in a Play! is a production of the Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences on Tour and is part of the Kimmel Center’s Family Discovery Series. Performances take place at the Merriam Theater on Saturday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
“We embrace every opportunity to welcome new arts lovers into the Kimmel Center and this show introduces a whole new generation of book lovers to live theater,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “The Elephant & Piggie series teaches wonderful values to little ones and we hope that their memories of seeing their favorite characters live on stage will stay with them for a long, long time.”
Elephant Gerald and Piggie will sing and dance their way through a brand-new vaudevillian-style musical, We Are in a Play! The beloved duo will tackle topics from the book series including sharing and manners, all while backed by their nutty back-up singers The Squirrelles. Audiences can get ready to participate and interact with the characters throughout the performance. We Are in a Play! is recommended for ages four and up.
Other upcoming programming in the Family Discovery Series includes iLuminate (February 10—11, 2017, Merriam Theater), Paw Patrol Live! (March 3—5, 2017, Merriam Theater), and DRUMLine Live!(March 9—10, 2017, Merriam Theater).
