JERRY BLAVAT RETURNS TO THE KIMMEL CENTER FOR GOSPEL, SOUL, AND DOO WOP REUNION IN HIS ANNUAL PERFORMANCE AT VERIZON HALL, JANUARY 28, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, November 18, 2016) –– Philadelphia’s favorite radio DJ, Jerry Blavat, is back for his annual star-studded performance in Verizon Hall, January 28, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.  The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts partners with Blavat every season for an exciting variety show featuring special guests and beloved tunes. As per tradition for his appearances at the Kimmel Center, attendees are invited to the Commonwealth Plaza for cocktails and dancing before and after the performance.

This year’s show, Gospel, Soul, and Doo Wop Reunion, will feature performers from all three genres including performances by Dee Dee Sharp, who started out in the gospel music world, backed by The Dixie Hummingbirds; The Tokens (“The Lion Sleeps Tonight”); Eddie Holman (“Hey There Lonely Girl”); The Chi-lites (“Have You Seen Her”); and The Stylistics (“You Make Me Feel Brand New”); plus a tribute to Kenny Vance, founding member of Jay Black & the Americans, by his son Ladd Vance; and a salute to Johnny Maestro featuring a performance by Tommy Marra and The Crests.

“No Kimmel Center season is complete without a performance from beloved cultural icon, Jerry Blavat,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Jerry is a staple in the Philadelphia music community and we’re certain that this year’s guest performers will help us relive many of the classic songs we all know and love.”
