DANIEL ALEXANDER JONES AND HIS FIERCE ALTER EGO JOMAMA JONES BRING BLACK LIGHT TO SEI INNOVATION STUDIO, MAY 4–6, 2017

Show Developed as Part of the Kimmel Center’s Theater Residency Program in Partnership with Joe’s Pub at The Public

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, March 23, 2017) –– Jomama Jones will make her Kimmel Center debut in BLACK LIGHT at the SEI Innovation Studio, Thursday, May 4 – May 6, 2017at 8:00 p.m. – a show developed as part of the Kimmel Center’s Theater Residency program, in partnership with Joe’s Pub at The Public. Portrayed by the brilliant and versatile Daniel Alexander Jones, Jomama will sing original songs from her album Flowering, composed with Bobby Halvorson, as well as brand new compositions with Dylan Meek and Samora Pinderhughes. The show premiered at the Under the Radar Festival at Joe’s Pub as part of the Kimmel Center’s ongoing partnership through the Theater Residency program.

Accompanied by a stellar band, vocalists, and a few special guests, Jomama will explore the signs and signifiers found in the darkest part of the night that send us toward the blush of dawn.

“Jomama Jones delivers a truly eye opening performance,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Although brilliant, the compositions and musical talent are not what stands out - what stands out is how she emits hope and positivity with every breath. This unique performance amplifies the message that we have the power to make the changes in the world that we strive to see.”

Daniel Alexander Jones has strived to dissolve boundaries and explore radical presence in live art for over 20 years. An accomplished actor, singer, and creator of performance art, Jones is a significant contributor to the development of The Theatrical Jazz Aesthetic and utilizes collaboration, risk, and impulsiveness while crafting and presenting his work. Jones’ alter ego Jomama Jones made her return to the stage in 2010, following a 15-year hiatus. Jones was a 2015 Theater Residency Artist at the Kimmel Center.
