JAZZ ORCHESTRA OF PHILADELPHIA PRESENTS A STRING OF PEARLS WITH SPECIAL GUEST PAT MARTINO AND TRIO,  JUNE 18, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, May 23, 2016) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts welcomes the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia (JOP), with special guest legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino and his trio onSaturday, June 18at 8:00 p.m. at the Perelman Theater. The program will feature the famed piece, made popular by Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, A String of Pearls, along with other big band classics. Led by world-renowned trumpet player and educator Terell Stafford, and comprised of some of Philadelphia’s finest musicians, JOP is dedicated to preserving, representing, and continuing Philadelphia’s unique, rich jazz sound and tradition.

“We are thrilled to present Philadelphia’s own jazz orchestra with a classic jazz standard so perfectly suited to show off this ensemble’s strengths,” said Ed Cambron, Executive Vice President of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.  “The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia is comprised of some of our city’s finest musicians, continuing to bolster our status as a top jazz destination in the U.S.”

The Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia is a nonprofit organization affiliated with CultureTrust Greater Philadelphia. Terell Stafford, artistic director, world renowned trumpet player and Director of Jazz Studies at Temple University, has organized an orchestra of 17 stellar, homegrown musical artists. Together, they are dedicated to presenting the highest quality jazz to Philadelphia. In addition to embodying Philadelphia’s vital jazz legacy with energetic jazz performances, both locally and outside of the city, JOP provides essential educational components as part of its mission. As Director of Jazz Studies at the Temple University Boyer College of Music, Terell Stafford offers a synergy with Temple University that intends to branch out to younger Philadelphia students.
