Tour Performance To Showcase New Songs from Forthcoming Album

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, August 25, 2016) –– For the first time ever, legendary American rock band Kansas will perform their breakthrough album Leftoverture in its entirety. The band will be touring select cities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the album which reached sextuple-platinum status for more than 6 million copies sold. The performance will showcase two hours of classic Kansas songs including crowd favorites along with new songs from their soon-to-be-released album, The Prelude Implicit – the group’s first album in 16 years. The one-night-only performance, presented in association with BRE Presents, will take place at the Merriam Theater on Saturday, October 1 at 8:00 p.m.

“For more than four decades, from generation to generation, Kansas has been a part of the soundtrack of our lives,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “It’s a privilege to host this performance at the Merriam Theater, and to give Philadelphia audiences a sneak peek at songs from this iconic group’s first new album in 16 years!”

The American rock band rose to fame in the 1970s – first featured on album-oriented rock charts following the release of their debut album but soon after climbing the Billboard charts with hit singles. Throughout the years, the band has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-platinum albums, one platinum live album, and a million-selling gold single. Kansas appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. The group was recently inducted into both the Kansas Hall of Fame and Georgia Music Hall of Fame for their achievements from both their native state and adopted home state.

Other upcoming rock shows on the Kimmel Center Campus include Sigur Ros (October 8, 2016, Academy of Music) and Brit Floyd (April 15, 2016, Academy of Music).
