CIRCUS MEETS OPERA IN LA VERITÀ
COMPAGNIA FINZI PASCA’S CIRQUE-INSPIRED SPECTACLE

AT THE MERRIAM THEATER
MAY 13–14, 2016

“La Verità delights through performances tinged with sheer beauty and offbeat humor. Like a daydream…the acts are mesmerizingly beautiful.”

 –– Le Journal De Montréal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, April 27, 2016) –– After wow-ing audiences in Sydney and at New York’s BAM, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts welcomes Compagnia Finzi Pasca in La Verità, a thrilling cirque-style presentation, to the Merriam Theater, Friday May 13 and Saturday, May 14. Written and directed by Swiss contemporary circus maverick Daniele Finzi Pasca – internationally-renowned for his work on Olympic ceremonies, international opera productions, and with Cirque du Soleil – La Veritàis a lush, vaudevillian dreamscape where rhinos juggle and corks fall like rain. The work was inspired by the art of Salvador Dalí and the opera Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner.

“This surreal performance set against a stunning backdrop is a wonderful exploration of how one art form can propel another,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “This picturesque performance features death-defying acrobatics, visual art, and powerful storytelling, blending several genres into one beautiful performance.”

Internationally-renowned writer and director Daniele Finzi Pasca creates and directs award-winning shows around the world, from Olympic ceremonies to the long-running Cirque du Soleil hit Corteo. He now lets his imagination run wild in this thrilling, acrobatic vision that is sure to make the audience gasp in delight. The performance is set before a replica of an original hand-painted backdrop by Dalí that was produced for a 1944 Metropolitan Opera ballet production.

La Verità is supported by Cornercard, Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola, OSI, RSI, La Place des Arts, Maison de la Culture de Neverset de la Nièvre, Scène Nationale de Bayonne -- Sud Aquitain, Città di Lugano, Cantone Ticino, Pre Helvetia, Caffè Chicco d’Oro, Fidinam, and Ernst Gӧhner Stiftung.
