BEST-SELLING CHRISTMAS ARTIST MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER TO PERFORM FAMED CHRISTMAS ALBUM AT THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC, DECEMBER 3, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, October 20, 2016) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is proud to welcome the 32nd Anniversary tour of Mannheim Steamroller: Christmas by Chip Davis for two performances on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Academy of Music. The spirit of the season will come alive with the signature sound of Mannheim Steamroller, the best-selling Christmas artist of all time. The tour celebrates the group’s first Christmas album, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, which was released in 1984 and revolutionized the Holiday Season music category. This performance is presented in association with MagicSpace Entertainment.

“We are so excited to welcome Mannheim Steamroller back to the Kimmel Center Campus, getting Philadelphia ready for the holidays,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Not surprisingly, Christmas by Chip Davis is consistently at the top of Billboard’s seasonal charts. We cannot wait to experience these iconic songs and dazzling effects as they fill the Academy of Music.”

Grammy Award winner Chip Davis founded Mannheim Steamroller in 1974 when industry executives said his innovative 18th century instrumental rock sound would never sell. Chip Davis and Mannheim Steamroller have released over 25 Christmas albums, earning them several spots on the best-selling Christmas music of all-time list by the Recording Industry Association of America. Over the years, Mannheim Steamroller has sold more than 40 million albums including 28 million Christmas albums, with 19 gold, 8 multiplatinum, and 4 platinumcertified records.

Other upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Campus include A Well-Strung Christmas (December 8, 2016, Perelman Theater), A Soulful Christmas (December 13, 2016, Verizon Hall), Mamma Mia! (December 27 – 31, 2016, Merriam Theater), and Celtic Woman (April 14, 2017, Academy of Music).
