NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON GOES ON A SCIENTIFIC JOURNEY THROUGH OUR FAVORITE FILMS IN AN ASTROPHYSICIST GOES TO THE MOVIES, NOVEMBER 30, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, September 21, 2016) –– Neil deGrasse Tyson, the man who made science cool again and People Magazine’s 2000 “sexiest astrophysicist alive,” comes to the Academy of Music November 30, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. for An Astrophysicist Goes to The Movies. From Star Wars to Frozen to The Martian, Tyson will provide an entertaining review of the science from our favorite movies – what they got right, and what they got wrong. Throughout the night, Tyson will take a deeper look at some of Hollywood’s most-popular modern-day films, as well as some classics that audiences may not have known had any science in them at all!

“Neil deGrasse Tyson has a knack for taking the complex and making it relatable to audiences of all kinds,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Brilliantly intertwining cinema with science, Neil will take the audience on a journey through space and time using films that we know and love.”

Neil deGrasse Tyson, American astrophysicist and popularizer of science, frequently gives talks across the country and is a media favorite whenever there is an important science issue making news. Tyson is known for his ability to make difficult concepts accessible to every audience, his oratory skills, and his sense of humor. Throughout his career, he has made appearances on such shows as Real Time with Bill Maher, The Colbert Report, and The Daily Show. Tyson served as the executive editor and on-camera host and narrator for Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey, which won four Emmy® Awards, a Peabody Award, two Critics Choice awards, as well as dozens of other industry recognitions. Tyson hosts his own podcast, Star Talk Radio, a science-based talk show that features comedic co-hosts focusing on astronomy, physics, and everything one would want to know about the universe.

Other upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Campus include Steven Martin & Martin Short (October 28 -29, 2016, Academy of Music), Hasan Minhaj (December 2, 2016, Perelman Theater), The Second City Live: We’re All in This Room Together (February 3 – February 4, 2016, Perelman Theater), and Carol Burnett: An Evening of Laughter and Reflection (April 11, 2017, Academy of Music).
