FOUR-TIME GRAMMY® AWARD-WINNING SOPRANO

RENÉE FLEMING

MAKES KIMMEL CENTER DEBUT IN SOLO RECITAL

IN VERIZON HALL, OCTOBER 15

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA. August 31, 2017) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is honored to welcome world-renowned and Grammy® Award-winning soprano Renée Fleming to Verizon Hall for her debut solo recital on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. Fleming has performed in the most prestigious venues around the globe.  She was a host of the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD series broadcast in theaters nationwide and PBS’ Live at Lincoln Center. Fleming was also awarded the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama in 2013.

“I am thrilled to welcome Renée Fleming to our Kimmel Center Campus for her Verizon Hall debut,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Her voice is superb, her accolades astounding, and what a treat for audiences to experience this intimate recital format!”

Renée Fleming is celebrated outside the concert hall, both nationally and internationally. A graduate of Juilliard, in the past decade she has lent her voice to stages of the Beijing Olympic Games, a Nobel Peace Prize event, and at Brandenburg Gate and Buckingham Palace. Fleming made history at Super Bowl XLVIII by being the only classical singer to ever perform the United States National Anthem at the event.

Winner of four Grammy Awards, Fleming is the recipient of a plethora of prestigious distinctions, from the Fulbright Lifetime Achievement Medal to degrees gifted from institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, The Julliard School, and Harvard University. She made history as the only female to “solo headline” a Metropolitan Opera gala on its debut evening.

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Campus include: The Scott Brothers’ House Party (September 6, 2017, Merriam Theater), An Evening with David Sedaris (October 16, 2017, Academy of Music), Essential Einaudi (October 28, 2017, Merriam Theater), and Joe Biden: American Promise Tour (November 15, 2017, Academy of Music).
