STAGES & PERFORMANCES
We have turned a dark year into one of innovation and engagement, identifying unique ways to meet the needs of the community even while our doors are closed.
Since March 2020, we’ve:
Launched our “Show Must Go On” virtual hub featuring digital performances ranging from Hamilton’s Christopher Jackson, to our artists-in-residence, and our esteemed Resident Companies.
Safely opened our doors for the things Philadelphia needs most: for crucially needed blood drives and food drives, as a peaceful resting place for protesters and police to take a break during the summer protests, and as a regional polling center for the midterm and presidential elections.
Hosted live stream dance parties, meet ups, and free ‘at home’ Kimmel curated music therapy with themed Spotify playlists.
Delivered happiness to our youngest art lovers with virtual family sing-alongs. Launched our free education programs into the digital realm, providing much-needed inspiration to thousands of students and support to teachers and parents-turned-teachers in the new online school environment.
Continued our tradition of honoring Black History Month with an array of digital and interactive events for audiences of all ages.
Delivered a holiday season full of cheer: presented special broadcast performances featuring the cast of The Lion King and Philadanco during the 6ABC Thanksgiving Celebration; broadcasted a special radio airing of our Kimmel tradition, A Soulful Christmas, with our partners at WDAS; presented livestream performances of timeless and re-imagined classics; and created a way for Philadelphia to bid adieu to 2020 with a New Year’s Digital Resolution Wall.
