Flashback 2007 as the Academy of Music’s Grand Chandelier Was Disassembled

Posted by:  Kimmel Center on December 23, 2016

This Flashback Friday, we’ll take you to 2007 as the Academy of Music’s grand chandelier was disassembled (after 150 years hanging in Philadelphia) and shipped to France for cleaning.

Prior to the Academy of Music opening in the 1850s, Philadelphians Cornelius and Baker constructed the chandelier, the grandest at the time and biggest that Cornelius and Baker would ever make.

In June 2007, the chandelier embarked on a journey over 13 months to southern France to be restored back to its earliest state.
