Floriography, or “the art of communicating sentiment and emotion through flowers,” is the inspiration behind Jazz resident Joanna Pascale’s brand new work.
On Friday, we hosted a collaborative workshop between the Saul High School for Agricultural Sciences and Pascale - Saul’s first-ever partnership with an arts organization - allowing Pascale to ask questions about the subject matter of these student experts.
She named flowers and wanted to know what ideas and associations came to mind for students– all in the hope of assigning thoughts and feelings to specific plants – ultimately using that combination of imagination and botany to help compose her song cycle.
