Music is the Healing Force of the Universe

Posted by:  Kimmel Center on April 18, 2012

This touching video shows how a nursing home resident is brought to life through the magical power of music as the nurses hand him an iPod pre-loaded with the music from his youth.

Join us tonight in the Merck Gallery as we discuss this very topic: Music is the Healing Force of the Universe.

It is long acknowledged that music can provide therapeutic support for various maladies. This discussion shares some of the research data, and personal insights that could offer help and greater understanding to the average listener.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Cynthia Folio, music therapist and composer of a multi-media work that uses her daughter’s voice-overs to explore the interior of an epileptic seizure.
  • Dr. Andi McGraw Hunt, Assistant Director Interdisciplinary Arts and Quality of Life Research Center at Temple University.
  • Alfie Pollitt, Philly R&B legend and jazz pianist, longtime student of music for healing and meditation.
  • Dr. Wendy Magee, Music Therapist at Temple University.

This is a Free engagement. Seminar begins at 6pm
