Our Top 5 Reasons You Need To See "The Phantom of the Opera" in Philly

Posted by:  Shaquierra Brown on November 01, 2017

Are you considering seeing this musical thriller on our Academy of Music stage? Haven't made up your mind fully yet? We’re making it easy with the top five reasons you need to go and see The Phantom of the Opera right now in Philly… Run, don’t walk!

The longest running…

Did you know The Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running Broadway show in history! The award-winning musical has been on the Great White Way for 29 years. There’s a reason why generations of theater goers keep coming back!

It’s award-winning…

Winning a Tony Award is the highest honor in the theater industry. Phantom won seven Tony Awards its opening season and has been a mainstay ever since!

You’re getting the best of both worlds…

You love the beautiful, visually stimulating world of musical theater. But you also love thrillers (minus Michael Jackson). Phantom is based on the 1910 horror novel by Gaston Leroux. The story follows a deformed composer who haunts the grand Paris Opera House…

The soundtrack…

Phantom has one of the best soundtracks as far as musicals go; with Andrew Lloyd Webber at the helm, you can’t go wrong. The man is a genius – even the Queen thought so and in 1992, she knighted him.

The perfect location...

The Academy of Music, or to history buffs “The Grand Old Lady of Locust Street,” is a gem on our Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, celebrating her 161st birthday next year! Though the building has transitioned into the 21st century, allow yourself to be transported back in time to the 1880s as it would have appeared during Phantom: the glittering chandelier, the golden sculptures … is that the Phantom himself peering down on you from high above?

The Phantom of the Opera runs November 1-12 at the Academy of Music.
