Acclaimed Hungarian pianist and chamber musician Dénes Várjon returns to PCMS, making
his Kimmel Center recital debut with a fascinating program that highlights music from his homeland. Following his initial PCMS solo concert in January 2014, the Philadelphia Inquirer lauded Várjon
as a 'major pianistic personality,' adding that his 'unvarnished treatment of harmony and aggressive
rhythm give an imperative impetus and sense of occasion to whatever he does… He found interlocking seams that suggested how such contrasting ideas belonged together. And he did so without
smoothing down anything or minimizing flashpoints.'
Program length: 1 hour and 50 minutes
6:45-7:30pm: Free Pre-concert Lecture in the Comcast Circle [Tier I]: Elizabeth Morgan
