Schubert: Quartet in A Minor, D. 804, Rosamunde
Shostakovich: Quartet No. 10, Op. 118
Intermission
Mendelssohn: String Quintet in B-flat Major, Op. 87
Drawing inspiration from the great American poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Emerson Quartet approaches each performance with an insight, enthusiasm and technical mastery easily connected to its namesake. It stands alone in the history of string quartets with an unparalleled list of achievements over three decades: more than 30 acclaimed recordings, nine Grammy Awards (including two for Best Classical Album, an unprecedented honor for a chamber music group) and the coveted Avery Fisher Prize. The Emerson's annual performance with PCMS includes the added enticement of Curtis Institute President Roberto Díaz, whose regular appearances as guest violist with PCMS have been called 'an artistic coup since he's one of the best of his generation' (Philadelphia Inquirer).
