Overview

Schumann: Geistervariationen
Schumann: Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6
Wagner: Elegy
Intermission
Liszt: Années de Pèlerinage, Book II: Italie [Sel.]
Wagner: Tristan und Isolde, Prelude [Arr.]
Liszt: La Lugubre Gondole No. 1
Wagner: Liszt's Tristan und Isolde, Liebestod [Arr.]

Expect nothing less than 'playing of the greatest intelligence and musical integrity' (The Guardian) when Imogen Cooper immerses herself in the work of three composers close to her heart: Schumann, Liszt and Wagner. A national treasure in her native England, Cooper has become known for her poetic, insightful interpretations and a rare ability to negotiate the composers' shifting moods. After a recital in Australia last season, the music website Bachtrack raved that 'Cooper succeeded where only a few would in opening the imaginary gate between artist and the outside world and inviting her audience into a most intimate sphere.'

Program length: 2 hours

The PCMS 2015/16 season is currently available by subscription.
