World Premiere Inaugural Young Composers Competition Winner
Glazunov Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 82
Orff Carmina Burana
Join the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra for their 77th Annual Festival Concert, Fourth Annual
Ovation Award, and celebration of Maestro Scaglione's 20th Anniversary with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization. Our 77th year marks the inaugural year of our Young Composers Competition and this exciting concert begins with a world premiere by the winner. Maestro Scaglione then leads the orchestra in Glazunov’s Violin Concerto with soloist Michael Ludwig, former Concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic and former Associate Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra. This monumental concerto is riddled with Russian folk music influence and challenges both the soloist and the orchestra. The concert concludes with the Orff’s well-known masterpiece Carmina Burana, with the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Boys Choir.
