The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) returns to Verizon Hall for its first concert of the 2016-2017 season under the direction of Maestro Scaglione, now celebrating his 20th anniversary season with PYO. The program opens with the Overture to The School for Scandal by the famous Curtis alumnus and West Chester, PA native, Samuel Barber. The talented young musicians of PYO will then be joined by The Philadelphia Orchestra’s concertmaster, David Kim, to perform Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor. The concert concludes with one of Rimsky-Korsakov’s most loved works, Scheherazade. This dramatic tone poem tells the tale of Sultana Scheherazade who evades execution by telling enchanting tales for one thousand and one nights.
