Who Got The Jazz is a successful jazz/soul/hip-hop fusion series that celebrates master Jazz musicians or soul vocalists work in a live curated jam session style. The likes of musical legends like John Coltrane, Gil Scott Heron, Lee Morgan, Stevie Wonder & more are honored. The event was originally conceived by Yusuf “Yuie” Muhammad at World Cafe Live, where it ran for a year.
This series, gets its name from the now, classic song, "Jazz [We've Got]," by the groundbreaking hip-hop crew, A Tribe Called Quest. Like much of their second album, “The Low End Theory” this song illustrates ATCQ's talents and interests in digging deep & finding smooth/mellow nuggets to sample and share with the world. As pioneers of Jazz digging, during the 1990s, what is called the golden age of hip-hop, ATCQ should get special attention and props for turning a new generation on to modern Jazz music.
Performers:
The Bul Bey, Jacqueline Constance, Tracey Preston and Chill Moody
Honoring:
Charlie Parker, Nina Simone, Gil Scott Heron & Ella Fitzgerald
