Overview

In order to support the development of new music theater, works of narrative music, and cabaret— the Kimmel Center in collaboration with Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater invites world-class performing artists to create new work that engages and embraces our community. This residency program functions as an incubator for innovative performance while pushing artists both professional and personally and 2018 marks its fourth year.

In June 2018, the Kimmel Center’s Theater Residency is back again with new teams of performers coming together to create and develop work in SEI Innovation Studio. While the eventual goal will be for the Kimmel Center to produce completed versions of their work throughout the next few seasons, the immediate aim of the residency is self-exploration, meaningful peer review, and the creation of new insights regarding musical narratives. The final readings will be presented as a conclusion to the residency – but as the beginning of the development of their work. The focus will be on text, voice, music, and body, and how these elements are woven together into musical and theatrical storytelling.
