Overview

Jewels
Emeralds, Rubies, and Diamonds by George Balanchine
Music by Gabriel Faure, Igor Stravinsky and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky

May 10-13, 2017
Academy of Music

Returning to the stage is George Balanchine’s only evening-length work without a story. Inspired by a visit to famed jewelers Van Cleef and Arpels, the three movements celebrate three facets of Balanchine’s life—the romantic French air and elegance of Emeralds, the jazzy American allure of Rubies, and the pure Russian pomp and splendor of Diamonds.
