The National Ballet of Ukraine presents “Don Quixote” in Philadelphia, PA


 May 31, The National Ballet of Ukraine will present the famously jovial “Don Quixote” starring a special guest - Teatro alla Scala soloist Leonid Sarafanov on stage of Academy of Music at Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. An outstanding classical ballet piece is conspicuous for the dazzling choreography, unsurpassed sets, and vivid costumes. A most admired dancing performance of the 20th century staged by the Company presents a remarkable example of the classical Russian ballet techniques mingled with the contemporary interpretation of dancing methods, so that the lightweight and precise performers’ movements appear as soaring over the stage.

Composed by Ludwig Minkus and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, this ballet recreates a charming flare of seventeenth century Spain as imagined in the original novel by Miguel de Cervantes. is the unique performance to see since  The ballet will be staged as a part of the company’s 150th Anniversary tour in the USA.

Choreographer Viktor Lytvynov who had chosen the Bolshoi’s acknowledged staging as a benchmark elaborated the current version of the famous piece, presented now by the National Ballet.

This true feast of the dance is performed in two acts with running time of 2 hours.
