Epic Beethoven
Empress Piano Concerto & Missa Solemnis

All Beethoven Program!
In memoriam Lewis du Pont Smith
Soloists: Andrea Lauren Brown (soprano), Jody Kidwell (alto), Dana Wilson (tenor), Kevin Deas (bass), Valentin Radu (piano)

Piano Concerto No. 3 in c minor, Op. 37
Missa Solemnis in D Major, Op. 123

This program will feature two monumental works by the great Beethoven: the Missa Solemnis in D Major, written during the height of his composing career, around the same time as his Ninth Symphony, and generally considered one of his supreme achievements; and—with Maestro Radu as soloist on the magnificent Bösendorfer Imperial Grand—the Piano Concerto No. 3, premiered, with the composer as soloist, in April 1803 at the same concert in which he premiered his Second Symphony and—more significantly—his dramatic oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives, which the Ama Deus Ensemble will be performing this season at our Good Friday concert in March.
