Overview

For her Perelman debut, Ms. Martha Graham Cracker throws her all into a musical fever-dream as she belts out a bevy of original songs – all available that night for the very first time on Martha’s very first album.

Lashed But Not Leashed is an 11-song musical odyssey into the hairy heart of Martha Graham Cracker as we witness what may be her last performance.  As she stares into the abyss of the current state of the world, she finds herself moved to abandon that fickle mistress called show biz in order to heed a much more urgent calling: she must become a librarian.

The show was created in residency at the Kimmel’s 2015 Theatre Residency Program with a world premiere in March 2017.  Martha and her band also took the show to Joe’s Pub as part of the Under The Radar Festival in January 2018, and toured it to the Guthrie Theatre in February 2019 before returning to perform it again in the Kimmel Innovation Studio in March 2019.

Now, due to popular demand, Martha and her band have recorded the songs of Lashed But Not Leashed and will celebrate with a can’t-miss one-night-only performance of the show, moving it upstairs to the grand hall of the Perelman Theater.   Directed by Joanna Settle and with text by Ethan Lipton, Lashed But Not Leashed is a wild tour de force show featuring songs in a dizzying range of musical styles, from throbbing funk anthem to close-harmony country, from quiet hymn to soaring ballad, from flirtatious patter song to angry rock 'n' roll.  Come revel in the lush and lovelorn songs that spring straight from Martha Graham Cracker's heart and be the first to own her debut album.

The Kimmel Center is proud to be the Executive Producer of the Lashed But Not Leashed album.
