Overview

Zakir Hussain is appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon and one of the greatest musicians of our time. A classic tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have established him as a national treasure in his own country, India. Along with his father and teacher, Ustad Allarakha, he has elevated the status of his instrument both in India and around the world.

Widely recognized as chief architect of the world music movement, his playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study. With many historic collaborations including Shakti, which he founded with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar, Remember Shakti, Planet Drum with Mickey Hart, and Masters of Percussion, his contributions to world music have made him one of India’s reigning cultural ambassadors.

Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh has been captivating audiences around the world for 30 years and is one of the leading Veena artists today. Blending the traditional and innovative in her music in terms of content, technique, virtuosity and expression, Jayanthi seeks to express the true voice of the veena, which transcends the boundaries of language and region.

Maestro Kala Ramnath with her "Singing Violin" stands among the world's finest,  most inspirational instrumentalists.  Due to her rigorous training in the Hindustani classical tradition and familiarity with the Karnatic classical tradition she comfortably forges musical alliances with renowned artists from different genres around the globe incorporating elements of Western Classical, Jazz, Flamenco and traditional African music into her rich and varied repertoire.

“If there is such a thing as a tabla superstar, Indian virtuoso Zakir Hussain is it”
Chicago Tribune

“This is music in which the line between artistry and bravado is as thin as an uncooked pappadam. It shrank it even further with displays of percussive virtuosity being the concert’s raison d’etre”
The Sydney Morning Herald

“...If Mozart had been transported to the South Asian subcontinent, this is what he and improvisedWestern classical music might have sounded like. This comparison is not thrown in to befuddle orimpress. Kala Ramnath is a musician of giant like qualities...”  - Jazz Wise magazine

"Jayanthi Kumaresh is indisputably the most highly prized veena player in India…The tremendous variety of Jayanthi’s style gives intense life to this domestic instrument…"
- Theatre De La Ville
