World-renowned Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra Tempesta di Mare celebrates its 15th Anniversary with a program of signature rediscoveries and Spring from Vivaldi's blockbuster The Four Seasons.
Tempesta di Mare has performed over 30 modern “world premieres” of lost or forgotten baroque masterpieces, leading the Inquirer to describe it as “an old-music group that acts like a new-music group, by pushing the cutting edge back rather than forward.” In Revival and Rediscovery the unconducted ensemble revives some of its most groundbreaking favorites, including Jean-Philippe Rameau's Suite from Pygmalion, Jean-Sigismond Kusser's Apollon enjoué, and Johann Gottlieb Janitsch's Ouvertrue Grosso for Double Orchestra (premiered in 2011). The program also includes the US premiere of the Orchestra Concerto in D, FWV L:D22, by Johann Friedrich Fasch, a Bach-contemporary, whose recent modern revival was fueld in part by Tempesta's acclaimed three-volume set of premiere recordings of the composer's orchestral works on the Chando label.
