WORLD-RENOWNED PHYSICIST, PROFESSOR BRIAN COX,

TO PRESENT HIS LIVE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE,

UNIVERSAL: ADVENTURES IN SPACE AND TIME

AT THE KIMMEL CENTER, APRIL 28, 2019

“Brian Cox is as famous, if not more famous, in the U.K. than Carl Sagan ever was here in America.  If you’ve never heard of him, you’ve gotta know about this guy.”

– Neil deGrasse Tyson

“If I had a torch I would hand it to Brian Cox” – Sir David Attenborough

“I’m a huge fan of your work.  One of the things that is so important about what you do, what Neil deGrasse Tyson does, is that you’re entertaining as well as having a genuine passion and deep knowledge of science.” – Joe Rogan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Philadelphia, PA, February 28, 2019) – World-renowned physicist Professor Brian Cox will appear at the Kimmel Center for his immersive live experience, UNIVERSAL: Adventures in Space and Time on April 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM in Verizon Hall.

UNIVERSAL: Adventures In Space And Time will use ultra-high resolution LED screens to present state of the art graphics and imagery from ground-based telescopes and space probes.  This immersive experience will take audiences to the edge of current understanding about the origin and evolution of our Solar System and the Universe, offering a fascinating insight into the workings of nature at the most fundamental level.

“On our Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, we present offerings to Philadelphia audiences that reflect the range of thought that exists not only within our own city, but within our world,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Brian Cox’s UNIVERSAL: Adventures in Space & Time curates a space for independent thought and consideration of the universe around us; regardless of audience members’ initial knowledge of scientific subjects, we hope everyone leaves the experience with a considerably deeper understanding of various new scientific discoveries as a result of this accessible and charismatic presentation.”

Professor Cox will explore the latest missions to the planets, the nature of space and time from the Big Bang to black holes, and the origin and fate of life and intelligence in the Universe.  He will also address questions about the value of science, how we acquire scientific knowledge, and why we should trust it.

“On the last tour I loved talking about astronomy and cosmology in very large venues that usually only host rock bands,” stated Professor Cox.  “The great advantage was the ability to use vast, state of the art screens to display images of the cosmos as we’ve never seen them before. 30 meter-wide images from the Hubble Space Telescope are certainly something to behold.  On this new tour, I’m going to go a step further with the technology, to the horror of my promoter because it’ll be bloody expensive.  But it’ll be bloody spectacular as well, and I hope it’ll offer people a completely new perspective on our place in the Universe.”

Whether an avid science reader or a total novice, Professor Cox makes challenging ideas accessible to all, exploring the vast, possibly infinite, universe and our place within it from Earth to the edges of the cosmos. Brian will be joined by co-host of The Infinite Monkey Cage and award-winning comedian Robin Ince to oversee an audience Q&A, giving fans the chance to ask any questions they have and making every show unique.

Brian Cox is Professor of Particle Physics at The University of Manchester, The Royal Society Professor for Public Engagement in Science and a Fellow of the Royal Society. As an award-winning broadcaster, he has presented a number of highly-acclaimed science programs internationally, boosting the popularity of subjects such as astronomy and physics and garnering a host of accolades, including two Royal Television Society awards and a Peabody Award for Wonders Of The Solar System.  He has also authored a series of best-selling books, including the widely acclaimed Human Universe and the recently released Universal: A Guide to the Cosmos, and is recognized as the foremost communicator for all things scientific. His critically-acclaimed BBC series, Forces of Nature, aired on PBS in 2016 and he recently, once again, co-hosted Stargazing Live. He holds two Guinness World Record titles for a science tour for his total sell-out debut tour, which began in 2016 and saw over 150,000 attend in total, including a sell-out show at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Nickelodeon’s Double Dare Live (March 28-29, 2019, Merriam Theater), The Illusionists: Live from Broadway (May 10-11, 2019, Merriam Theater) and National Geographic Live – Standing at the Water’s Edge with Marine Biologist and Photographer, Cristina Mittermeier (May 16, 2019, Merriam Theater).
