THE KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS THE

HILARIOUS STYLINGS OF CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED COMEDIANS,

THE IMPROVISED SHAKESPEARE COMPANY

JUNE 7 – 8, 2019

“One of the most reliably clever and funny improv troupes in the country.”- The New York Times

“Smart, sophisticated, downright hilarious.” – Time Out Chicago

“Mind-Blowing!”- Edge Miami

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, May 7, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus welcomes outstanding improv group The Improvised Shakespeare Company to the Perelman Theater on Friday, June 7 & Saturday, June 8, 2019.  Based on one audience suggestion (a title for a play that has yet to be written), the company creates a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style onstage before attendees.

“The Improvised Shakespeare Company is a breath of fresh air every single night,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Their comedic style is refreshing and bold, crafting exciting new storylines in the style of one of the most beloved playwrights of all-time: the Bard himself. This show is the perfect addition to our growing comedy series on the Cultural Campus, and we can truly say it’s an original – no two shows are the same!”

Often called the most successful improv show in the history of the art form, The Improvised Shakespeare Company has received many awards since originating its critically-acclaimed show for sold-out audiences in 2005. They are based out of iO Theater in Chicago and have been featured at festivals and events around the country. The incredibly talented cast has performed with the biggest names in comedy including ComedySportz, The Second City, and Upright Citizen’s Brigade.

Notable names who’ve performed with the company include Thomas Middleditch (of Verizon Wireless commercial fame, as well as The Office and HBO’s Silicon Valley), as well as internationally-renowned actor Patrick Stewart.

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Freakonomics Radio Live! (June 6, 2019, Merriam Theater), The Second City: She The People (June 13-22, 2019, Perelman Theater), and John Cusack: Say Anything (June 22, 2019, Academy of Music).
