AWARD-WINNING RADIO HOST IRA GLASS GIVES AUDIENCES AN INSIDE LOOK INTO HIS ICONIC LIFE IN
SEVEN THINGS I’VE LEARNED: AN EVENING WITH IRA GLASS ON THE KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS,
OCTOBER 21, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, September 5, 2018) – Iconic public radio host of This American Life Ira Glass brings his unforgettable show, Seven Things I’ve Learned: An Evening with Ira Glass, to the Kimmel Center’s Merriam Theater on October 21, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Glass will deliver a unique lecture experience through audio clips, music, and video, sharing lessons from his life and career in storytelling and answering questions. During the performance, Glass will mix stories live on stage, giving audiences an inspiring inside look into the creative process of one of the nation’s foremost storytellers.

“For over two decades, we’ve listened and watched as Ira Glass climbed up the entertainment ladder, creating innovative content and supplying millions of fans with a voice to which they could relate,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We are very excited to welcome the return of Mr. Glass to the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, to share his personal anecdotes, unscripted stories, and life lessons acquired throughout his influential career.”

Ira Glass began his career in 1978 with an internship at National Public Radio’s network headquarters in Washington, DC. As his career continued to grow, he worked on nearly every NPR network news program, building a résumé consisting of virtually every production job in NPR’S headquarters including tape cutter, newscast writer, editor, reporter, and producer.  Glass continued to take strides in the world of public radio, eventually putting This American Life on air in 1995.

Since 1995, Glass has been the creator and host of the public radio program, This American Life, a show played on more than 500 radio stations and heard each week by over 2.2 million listeners with another 2.5 million downloading each podcast. Additionally, Glass is one of the editors of the widely popular podcasts, Serial and S-Town. Paving ways across the entertainment landscape, Glass has produced three feature films: Mike Birbiglia’s Don’t Think Twice and Sleepwalk with Me, as well as the Netflix original movie Come Sunday.

Under Glass’s editorial direction, This American Life has won the highest honors of broadcasting and journalistic excellence, including six Peabody Awards. In 1999, the American Journalism Review declared that This American Life was “in the vanguard of a journalistic revolution.” Since then, a generation of podcasts and radio shows have formed – building on the style of narrative journalism championed by Glass and his staff.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include:Hasan Minhaj: Before the Storm (September 23, 2018, Merriam Theater), #IMOMSOHARD – Mom’s Night Out Round 2 (October 17, 2018, Merriam Theater), AC2: Anderson Cooper and Any Cohen (November 3, 2018, Academy of Music), Tom Segura (November 16-17, 2018, Merriam Theater), and The Second City (January 30-February 2, 2019, Perelman Theater).
