THE KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

FOR A NIGHT OF DISCO, ROCK 'N’ ROLL, AND SOUL
JANUARY 25, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, November 21, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus welcomes back Philadelphia’s most iconic radio DJ, Jerry Blavat, to Verizon Hall on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 8:00 p.m, for his annual show! This year’s show, Disco, Rock 'n’ Roll, and Soul, features Jerry Blavat – aka the “Geator with the Heater”, aka “the Boss With The Hot Sauce” – along with performances from artists including Gary U.S. Bonds, Peaches & Herb, The Chi-Lites, The Trammps, Bobby Wilson, The Happenings, and a special tribute salute to Johnny Maestra with Tommy Mara and the Crests.
“Jerry Blavat is as much an institution on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus as he is across Philadelphia and beyond,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “He has been delighting our audiences in Verizon Hall since our organization’s inception, not only with a show featuring a stellar lineup of top artists, but also with post-show parties in our Commonwealth Plaza that keep guests dancing long after the curtain falls.”
Jerry Blavat has been on the Philadelphia radio waves with golden oldies for over 50 years. He gained local fame hosting live dances in the area, which led to his own independent radio show, on which he broke many acts in the 1960s, including the Four Seasons and the Isley Brothers. His career has earned him many accolades including “Best Philly Icon” in a 2018 readers’ poll in Philadelphia Magazine, as well as inductions in the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame, the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Rachael & Vilray (December 12, 2019, Perelman Theater), DRUMline Live (January 10 – 11, 2020, Merriam Theater), The Simon & Garfunkel Story(January 29 – 30, 2020, Merriam Theater), and An Evening with Bruce Hornsby and yMusic (March 4, 2020, Merriam Theater).
