THE KIMMEL CENTER’S RESIDENT DANCE COMPANY PHILADANCO CELEBRATES THE WORK AND CAREERS OF RECENT COMPANY ALUMNI IN SUCCESS STORIES APRIL 13-15, 2018

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, February 22, 2018) –– The much-loved Kimmel Center Resident Company PHILADANCO presents its spring program, Success Stories, in the Perelman Theater April 13-15, 2018.  Success Stories will feature the works of recent PHILADANCO alumni who have gone on to flourish in their successful careers.  Pieces will include works by Hope Boykin, now a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Anthony Burrell, an established creative director, choreographer, and actor who recently won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography for Beyoncé’s “Sorry”; Iquail Shaheed, founder and executive artistic director of the cutting-edge dance company DANCE IQUAIL; and Tommie-Waheed Evans, current Artist-in-Residence at PHILADANCO.

“It is a time-honored tradition for the Kimmel Center to present two programs with PHILADANCO every season, each showcasing dancers and choreographers whose performances tug at the heartstrings of our audiences,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.  “These performances are inspiring, entertaining, and always exciting.  I am thrilled to welcome the   return of our favorite former company members and their new works.”

The Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO), founded by Joan Myers Brown, presents the highest quality of professional dance performance and improves the skills of emerging and professional dancers and choreographers. PHILADANCO is celebrated across the nation and around the world for its innovation, creativity, and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance.

 

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Maks, Val and Peta Live on Tour: Confidential (April 3, 2018, Academy of Music), Patti LaBelle (April 5, 2018, Academy of Music), On Your Feet!
