KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

THE CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED STORY OF A LEGENDARY

FOLK-ROCK DUO IN

THE SIMON & GARFUNKEL STORY

JANUARY 29 – 30, 2020

"A must for fans, an education to the uninitiated, this is a tribute show made with true respect for the music - and the audience.”

 - Portsmouth News

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, November 21, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus presents the critically-acclaimed The Simon & Garfunkel Story at the Merriam Theater on Wednesday, January 29 and Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. both evenings. This immersive concert-style theater show chronicles the riveting journey of folk-rock duo, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, famously known as Simon & Garfunkel. Complete with state-of-the-art video projection, unique lightning, and a full live band, this moving production highlights the rise and fall of one of music’s most successful duos of all time.

“Our Cultural Campus is home to a diverse array of performing arts content for the Philadelphia community. Our presentations span genres and decades, often featuring the voices of the past, including Carole King, Donna Summer, Joan Baez, Emmy-Lou Harris, and more,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.“The Simon & Garfunkel Story captures the intrinsic nature of the 60s, in a compelling chronical about two of music’s most seminal performers. It’s a candid story that we hope fans of the duo, both old and new, will appreciate.”

After selling out its UK tour and stunning audiences across the globe, The Simon & Garfunkel Story productionis making its way to North America. Utilizing projection screens; original film footage; and hits such as “Mrs. Robinson,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Homeward Bound,” “Scarborough Fair,” “The Boxer,” and “The Sound of Silence,” the cast lead by Adam Dickenson (Simon) and Kingsley Judd (Garfunkel), takes audiences on a captivating voyage through the highs and lows of Simon & Garfunkel’s life. The story recreates their humble beginning as Tom & Jerry, their incredible success as one of the best-selling music groups of the 60s, their dramatic split in 1970, and finally, the famous “The Concert in Central Park” reunion in 1981.

Starting out as childhood friends, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel developed perfect harmony and paired their skills together to form the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. Over the years, the musical masters became their generation’s urbane receptacles of hipness in a rich and manic era. They’ve won 10 Grammy® Awards, received a Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award, a Grammy® Hall of Fame Award for “The Sound of Silence”, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Although these masters of music are not performing together anymore, they blessed the world with one last performance in 2010 at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. The Simon & Garfunkel Story will entertain you with a glimpse of the songs and stories that shaped them and their individual solo careers, including all of the breakups, rifts, and reunions they had between 1971 and 1990.

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: An Evening with Sutton Foster (November 22, 2019, Merriam Theater), Béla Fleck& the Flecktones (December 3, 2019, Verizon Hall), Rachael & Vilray (December 12, 2019, Perelman Theater) and DRUMline Live (January 10-11, 2020, Merriam Theater).
