Musical Theater Program: Set The Stage

Musical Theater Program: Set The Stage provides 4th – 6th grade students with an introduction to the magic of musical theater. Through this unique three-part program, students will explore theater as a medley of different art forms, all serving to Set The Stage for students to tell their own stories. With a focus on musical theater, students will learn theater basics (concepts and vocabulary, artistic disciplines, and history), engage through interactive activities, and be inspired to continue pursuing theatrical art forms in the future.

The program includes:
1. In-school Pre-show workshop
2. Trip to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to see the Set The Stage performance
3. In-school Post-show workshop


Who

This program is designed for Philadelphia area schools, 4th-6th grade students. This does not require an art classroom but can take place in any general classroom.

What

The full program includes:
• In-school Pre-show workshop: Our experienced Teaching Artists come to your class(es) to introduce your students to the world of musical theater through engaging acting, singing, and dancing activities, as well as prepare them for what they will experience when they come to the Kimmel Center for the Set The Stage Performance.
• Trip to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to see the Set The Stage performance: An interactive assembly-style performance. This captivating performance featuring local Philadelphia talent, will immerse students in the sights and sounds of a professional musical production with a journey through acting, singing, dancing, and theater technology.
• In-school Post-show workshop: Our Teaching Artists return to your school for a workshop where they will guide students through a creative activity in which students will collaborate to create their own musical theater story. 
• Schools can register for the performance only if they do not want to participate in the full program.

When

Pre-show workshops take place on select days October 14th – November 18th (exact dates listed in registration).Performance dates are:

  • November 7th: 12:00-1:00pm
  • November 19th: 10:30-11:30am
  • November 19th: 12:00-1:00pm
  • November 20th: 10:30-11:30am
  • November 20th: 12:00-1:00pm

Post-show workshops take place on select days November 11th – December 19th (exact dates listed in registration).

Where

• Pre-show and post-show workshops will take place at your school. They can take place in a general classroom, music room, etc.
• The performance is in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 S. Broad St. Philadelphia, PA 19102

Cost

The program is completely free! In addition, busing can be provided to Title I schools for the trip to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the performance.
