FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, June 6, 2017) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts proudly announces programming for the 2017/18 Jazz Season featuring internationally-acclaimed artists, local talent, and crossover programming that highlights the genre in new ways. The upcoming season features a wide range of programming across the Kimmel Center Campus that showcases the evolution of jazz from its legendary history in Philadelphia to new artists continuing to create and recreate music for the future. The 2017/18 season will kick off on October 4 with Grammy Award-winning pianist Herbie Hancock. The remainder of the season explores a wide array of jazz sensibilities with the following artists: Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia, Afro-Cuban All Stars, Philadelphia-based vocalist Laurin Talese, saxophonist Branford Marsalis in a program with organist Jean-Willy Kunz, jazz violinist Regina Carter, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in concert with the legendary Chick Corea.

“It is important to us that our Jazz Season reaches broad and diverse audiences through an eclectic approach to the genre and this season truly showcases jazz from every angle,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “This lineup has something for everyone, from jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea to newer artists like Laurin Talese. We are honored to continue preserving jazz in our city through this incredible programming.”

Tickets for the Jazz Season go on sale to the public on June 5. Save 10% by purchasing a 3-show package or save 15% by purchasing 4 or more shows.

The Afro-Cuban All Stars is a unique orchestra, devoted to promoting the complete story of Cuban music. With each show, the orchestra exposes Cuba’s rich musical history, interpreting all of its musical genres.
