Film at the Kimmel

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts boasts an exciting partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO), best known for attracting film, TV and new media production to the region. The state-of-the-art installment in Perelman Theater claims the title as the largest screening venue in Center City. Ever important in the film world, the location on the Avenue of the Arts is ideal; add the expertise, connections and cache of the GPFO and the lights illuminate like movie magic! This collaboration is truly about progressing art and commerce for the greater good of cinematic artists and art lovers in the city and region.

The permanently installed equipment includes an adjustable aspect ratio projection screen, a high-definition, high intensity digital video projector with 3-D capability, a digital cinema server and a full audio system. Seating capacity for film use is approximately 460.

Pricing is competitive with nearby screening venues and traditional art houses, offering non-profit and for-profit group rates.

GPFO engages local narrative and documentary filmmakers to host screenings, managers of local film festivals, professional groups & associations, colleges & universities and more with creative thought and passion provoking programming not found elsewhere. Marketing and promotions also extends to major studios and producers for national screening events.

Past film screening events include:

  • Philadelphia premiere of Lee Daniel's The Butler
  • Screening of Musical Chairs
  • Philadelphia premiere of Digital Dharma
  • Philadelphia Film Festival screenings of August: Osage County, All is Lost, and Ten Years a Slave
