JOSÉ GONZÁLEZ BRINGS NEW TOUR FEATURING CHAMBER ENSEMBLE YMUSIC TOVERIZON HALL

MARCH 23, 2016

“One of the most recognizable sounds in indie rock.”

–        Billboard.com on José González

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, February 10, 2016) — The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in association with R5 Productions, welcomes acclaimed indie rock singer-songwriter José González and chamber sextet yMusic to Verizon Hall for a one-night-only performance on March 23 at 8:00 p.m. This unique collaboration will reframe González’s melodies with new chamber arrangements as performed with NYC-based chamber group yMusic. The two forces collaborated previously, performing to a standing-room-only crowd at Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors festival in 2014.

“This performance by José González and yMusic will unite two exceptional musical forces with distinctly different styles to make beautiful music,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We are excited that Philadelphia audiences will have the opportunity to experience such a unique presentation during this month-long U.S. tour.”

Of the collaboration, González said; “After a year of touring with a band focused on percussion and vocals, I look forward to playing many of the same songs in a different style…. I love [yMusic’s] setup and taste in arrangements, being six super talented musicians playing strings, flute, clarinet and trumpet, it feels like it opens us up from sounding energetic and avant-garde to classic and delicate.”

yMusic works in close quarters with contemporary composers and songwriters, developing ideas into vivid, communicative performances. Virtuosos, the six classically-trained players are equally comfortable in the classical and pop worlds, collaborating with artists from Nico Muhly to Dirty Projectors. Rob Moose of yMusic says, “yMusic is thrilled to be joining José once again and to bring our musicianship and unique color to José’s gorgeous, moody songwriting.”

The US tour begins in Seattle on March 6th with sold out performances throughout the month including stops at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and Beacon Theatre in New York.
