FIRST NATIONAL TOUR OF HIT OFF-BROADWAY COMEDY SEX TIPS FOR STRAIGHT WOMEN FROM A GAY MAN BRINGS ‘VERY ADULT COMEDY’ TO PERELMAN THEATER, FEBRUARY 9–11, 2017

"A night of laughter that makes you feel good in all the wrong places.” – BroadwayWorld.com
"It's hot. It's hysterical. It may even be better than sex!" – Columbia Spectator

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, December 22, 2016) –– The critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway show Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man comes to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ Perelman Theater for four hilarious (and helpful!) performances, February 9–February 11.  Based on the best-selling book by the same name that provides insightful tips to heterosexual women on how to please a man in bed, Sex Tips is a romantic comedy that takes the audience on a hilarious and wild ride where no topic is taboo and the insider ‘tips’ come straight from the source: a gay man.

"This irreverent production promises lots of laughs and maybe even a little misbehaving," said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.  “The show is the perfect night out for bachelorette and birthday parties, date nights, girls’ nights out, or anyone looking for an uproariously good time!”

Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man is a very adult comedy written by Matt Murphy who most recently produced the critically-acclaimed musical Side Show on Broadway. The play is set at a local university auditorium where the English department holds its monthly ‘meet the authors’ event. Robyn is the shy and studious moderator of the event and this month's featured author is Dan Anderson of Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man.  The third character is a hunky stage assistant of Eastern European descent, Stefan. Thwarting Robyn’s attempts to moderate a scholarly discussion of the book, Dan aims to entertain those in attendance with a highly theatrical, audience-interactive sex tip seminar.

The production is based on the book Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man written by Dan Anderson and Maggie Berman. First published in 1997, the book championed the straight girl/gay guy friendship in mainstream pop culture and instantly became a national best seller. The book was praised by the New York Daily News for “offering witty—and yes, explicit—descriptions of all manner of how-to’s;” by The New York Post as "straightforward and saucy . . . a play-by-play account of how to make the most of every moment;" and by Salon.com as “a cannily entertaining romp through the nuts and bolts of sex from the male perspective.”

Produced by Matt Murphy and Shawn Nightingale, Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man has scenic design by Luke Cantarella, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Brian Tovar, and video and sound design by Randy Blair.

Other upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Campus include Ryan Raftery is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion – The Anna Wintour Musical (February 9 – 11, 2017, SEI Innovation Studio), Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs (February 19, 2017, Academy of Music), Cabaret (April 4 – 9, 2017, Academy of Music), and Hedwig & The Angry Inch (April 18 – 23, 2017, Forrest Theatre).
