INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR YANNI BRINGS HIS GREATEST HITS AND NEW SONGS TO THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC, JULY 19–20, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, June 21, 2016) ––The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts welcomes one of the most recognizable artists of our time, Yanni, to the Academy of Music on Tuesday, July 19 and Wednesday, July 20 at 8:00 p.m. Accompanied by his world-renowned orchestra, Yanni’s performance will feature all of his greatest hits along with music from his 17th and most recent studio album, Sensuous Chill (2016).

“Yanni has shattered musical boundaries from the very beginning of his career and he continues to evolve his compositions with each album and performance,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “His unique talent and understanding of the world make him an incomparable force in the music industry.”

Yanni has accrued more than 50 platinum and gold albums, with international sales totaling over 25 million copies, including the 1997 double-platinum Tribute album, which sold more than a million copies within six weeks of its release, and 1994’s Live at the Acropolis, which sold more than 7.5 million copies worldwide. He has also earned Grammy nominations for his 1992 album Dare to Dream and the 1993 follow-up in my Time.

For over two decades, Yanni has been one of the top global touring acts in the world entertaining over five million people.  Several of his North American tours finished in the Top 10 concert tours of the year, as ranked by Performance Magazine and Pollstar. He has sold out an incredible 10 consecutive shows at the historic Radio City Music Hall in New York, opened the Burj Kahlifa in Dubai, and performed inside the Kremlin in Russia.

The universal appeal of his music has translated well as a soundtrack for major sporting events and commercial placement. Yanni’s song, “Aria,” was composed for an award-winning British Airways commercial, which still remains the most successful and longest-running commercial of all time. Since 1988, his music has provided a dramatic backdrop for such iconic sporting events as the Olympic Games, the Super Bowl, Tour De France, and the PGA Golf Championships.

Yanni has continued to tour extensively throughout the world, performing sold-out concerts in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North America, and South America. His notoriety and success has allowed Yanni to engage in the many humanitarian efforts that he feels so passionately about. He continues to support children, music and education in the countries he visits. He has become a spokesperson for NASA and has entered into a first of its kind collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, aimed at raising awareness of giant panda conservation.
