Bio: Deb Margolin is a playwright, performance artist and founding member of Split Britches Theater Company. She is the author of eight full-length solo performance pieces, which she has toured throughout the United States, as well as numerous plays, and is the recipient of a 1999-2000 OBIE Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance and the Kesselring Playwriting Award for her play Three Seconds in the Key in 2005. In May of 2007, she traveled on a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant to the University of Tel Aviv to present her play Critical Mass, in a Hebrew translation. Deb has enjoyed commissions from the Jewish Museum of New York, the Joseph Papp Public Theater, the Actor's Theater of Louisville and other theaters, has lectured extensively at universities throughout the country, has been artist in residence at Hampshire College and the University of Hawaii and Zale writer-in-residence at Tulane University, and served in the fall of 2000 as artist in residence in New York University's Department of Undergraduate Drama. She was awarded the 2005 Richard H. Brodhead Prize for Teaching Excellence at Yale University, and had the honor of accepting the 2008 Helen Merrill Distinguished Playwright award. A compilation of Deb's performance pieces and plays, entitled Of All The Nerve: Deb Margolin SOLO, was published in 1999 by Cassell/Continuum Press. Deb is currently an Associate Professor (adj.) in Yale University's undergraduate Theater Studies Program, and a proud member of New Dramatists.
Project Description: A Comedy Concerning the Grief of Endless Compassion. Compassion makes such sacred, sacred fools of us! It is about apologizing to things for throwing them in the garbage! It is about hearing the voices of creatures that do not speak! It is about having only 8 stops, wanting to raise, in 8 subway stops, a little boy thrust here from another country with people who could not love him! I met this boy once, and never again! I had only 8 stops to fill him with a sense of safety and love! 8 stops and no more! I tried; I tried and tried to do it! It is about the mortal body! Shall I say more? Whoever knows what s/he's really talking about?
