Broadway Legend Patti LuPone brings her latest one woman concert “Don’t Monkey with Broadway” to Verizon Hall.
The two-time Tony Award winner explores, through indelible interpretations of classic Broadway show tunes by the likes of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, Charles Strouse, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, how her life-long love affair with Broadway began and her concern for what the Great White Way is becoming today. Brotherly Love, Select Ensemble of the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus will be joining Patti onstage.
Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus
First formed by a group of men Christmas caroling locally in 1981, the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus (PGMC) has grown to 140+ active TTBB (Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, Bass) chorus members, and has steadily increased its visibility within the LGBTQ+ community and among Philadelphia arts organizations. The season includes three main stage productions in December, March, and May. In addition, the Chorus performs at cabarets, fundraisers, and other community events throughout the year. The select ensemble Brotherly Love (BROLO) performs at other concerts and community outreach events throughout the year. PGMC’s repertoire includes a broad range of styles, including music from the 17th century to the present -- spirituals, sacred music, holiday tunes, love ballads, comic pieces, pop and rock songs, Broadway and Hollywood tunes, opera choruses, folk songs from around the world, the latest LGBT empowerment music and other commissioned LGBT works.
PGMC has performed in Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Academy of Music, Prince Theater, and Arden Theater. Additionally, PGMC has sung with stars like Jennifer Holliday, Sandy Duncan and Jason Bateman, Juanita Holiday, Margaret Cho and Andrea McArdle. The Chorus has been awarded the 2016 Human and Civil Rights Award at the Pennsylvania State Education Association Celebrating Excellence Awards, as well as selected for the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund’s Non-Profit Hero Award in 2017.
