Discover how live action dance has been impacted by television dance competitions, and the explosion of hip-hop, in a not-to-be missed premier weekend from Philadelphia’s favorite dance company! Become a part of the creative journeys of two beloved choreographers, former star of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company Christopher Huggins, and Julliard instructor and director of the Jacob’s Pillow dance festival Milton Myers.
Featuring two world premiere works – Huggins’ The Chosen and Waves from Myers – the weekend includes previously choreographed pieces like Huggins’ When Dawn Comes and Myers’ Pacing, the first ballet he choreographed for PHILADANCO. Audiences are invited to witness these new works and rediscover old favorites, looking at the evolution of these styles and discovering how these choreographers have been impacted (or not) by the popularization of television dance shows, competitions, and the explosion of hip-hop.
