We would like to draw your attention to our big and important project – the MPO Valletta 2018  Tour to the USA in November-December 2018.

From Nov 27 to Dec 1, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) embarks on the MPO Valletta 2018 Tour across the USA as part of celebratory activities connected with its 50th anniversary and highlighting the status of Valletta being the European capital of culture 2018.

The project is initiated and implemented by the European Foundation for Support of Culture and endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation.

The tour program includes performances in the following concert halls and cities: Philadelphia’s renowned Kimmel Centre for the Performing Arts on 27 November; the Music Centre at Strathmore, in the Washington D.C. suburb of North Bethesda; the Carnegie Hall in New York on 1 December.

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be led by the famous conductor Sergey Smbatyan, merited artist of the Republic of Armenia, who performs a lot with MPO nowadays.

Each concert will be opened with a performance of Rebbieħa, a symphonic poem penned by Gozitan composer Joseph Vella. The MPO will go on playing the work of famous modern American-Maltese composer Alexey Shor - Travel Notebook, concerto for piano and orchestra, with Austrian pianist Ingolf Wunder (prize-winner of many international competitions, Deutsche Grammophon artist) as a soloist, before rounding off its concerts with Dmitri Shostakovich’s famous Fifth Symphony.
